The water extravaganza of Kerala can be seen with its Nehru Boat Race Festival. This challenging
Boat competition brings you all the fun and festivity. The race is organized in the Punnamada Lake adjacent to the Alappuzha area. The snake boat race is 135 feet long that grabs your attention at once. It encompasses crews of more than hundred men, struggling hard to win the priceless trophy.

Time of the Event

The boat race is held at the Punnamada Lake in Alleppey on the 2nd Saturday of August every year.

Celebration

The rhythmic boat song or “Vanchipattu” works wonder on the audience. The event is also witnessed by the high rank officials. The winner of the competitions received the Nehru Trophy that belongs to the time when Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru was the Prime Minister of the country. It resembles to a snake boat, which is made up of silver on wooden abacus. This is one of its kind and the words by Nehru are also inscribed on it above his signature.

Before starting of the race, a colourful water parade is organized, which is a wonderful attraction. The race also hauls more than ten thousand beholders from far and wide.
